The Orff Schulwerk approach to music and dance education is based on the educational philosophy and pedagogy of the contemporary composer Carl Orff and his colleague Gunild Keetman. The basic premise of the approach is that movement, speech, singing and instrumental playing form an inseparable unity in the music teaching process. The blending of these components contributes to the harmonious development of the child's physical, social, musical and artistic development.
The New York City Orff Certification Program will offer Levels 1 and 3 during the 2022-2023 school year. Entry to Level 3 is based upon successful completion of Levels 1 & 2 either in our own program or with a letter of completion from another AOSA-approved course in the United States. We welcome current music teachers, undergraduate and graduate students working toward careers in music education, and teachers of other subjects who possess a strong musical background. Successful completion of all three levels will culminate in Orff Schulwerk Certification.
Our NYC Orff Certification Program is approved for NY State CTLE Hours. Graduate credit may be arranged through Ashland University.
Our levels program is unique in its structure - since classes take place throughout the school year, teachers have the opportunity to immediately explore and experiment with new ideas in the classroom. This results in a flow of inspiring possibilities, fresh material for your students every week, and real-time feedback from course instructors and a cohort of like-minded, knowledgeable peers.
